Best Western Cliff Head Hotel
Situated on a private road in Carlyon Bay, the lovely 3 star Best Western Cliff Head Hotel has beautiful views over the coast to the sea. The refurbished Bay Restaurant offers a lovely range of dishes and the lounge and bar is a picturesque spot in which to indulge in a famous Cornish clotted cream tea. There is two nights in-house entertainment, a quiz on one night and bingo on another. It does not have a lift, but 11 of its 57 bedrooms are on the ground floor and the majority of its other bedrooms are accessible by only one flight of stairs.
Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Carlyon Bay in Cornwall for a 4 night stay.
Day 2: The Tamar Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a precious landscape with a unique history. Visit Morwellham Quay, once one of Britain’s busiest ports and recently featured in the television series ‘Edwardian Farm’. Travel on the narrow-gauge Mine Railway, before venturing deep underground in the George & Charlotte copper mine.
Day 3: Free time this morning with t an excursion to medieval Fowey, hometown of the famous novelist Daphne du Maurier. This afternoon visit Lanhydrock House, which is considered to be one of the finest houses in Cornwall, with 22 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, and a cafe serving traditional Oggie pasties and Cornish cream teas.
Day 4: Today the choice is yours. Enjoy a visit to the gloriously restored Lost Gardens of Heligan, then continue to Mevagissey, a picturesque and traditional Cornish fishing village with a colourful history of boat-building and smuggling; or explore the picture postcard villages of the Cornish Coast, including Looe and Polperro, with their lazy lanes and white-washed, higgledy-piggledy cottages.
Day 5: Time to head for home.
