Itinerary
Day 1: Travel to Telford for a 4 night stay.

Day 2: We travel via the Wenlock Edge before arriving at Stokesay Castle, one of Britain’s earliest fortified manor houses. Set in peaceful countryside near the Welsh border, the castle, together with its timber-framed gatehouse and parish church create a quite beautiful scene. Head on to Ludlow, described by John Betjeman as ‘the loveliest town in England’. It has also become the gastronomic capital of Shropshire so why not sample some of the fine local cuisine.

Day 3: Excursion to Shrewsbury, arguably the finest Tudor town in England, with its many half-timbered buildings, so typical of the Welsh marches. It is home to an Abbey, still a place of worship today; an imposing red sandstone Castle; the beautiful medieval church of St Mary’s and look out for Shrewsbury’s Shuts and Passages, which are a unique maze of narrow alleys which criss-cross the town centre. In the afternoon take a steam train journey on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.

Day 4: Heading over to nearby Wroxeter Roman City – once the 4th largest Roman City in England. Then head over to Much Wenlock, a rustic 700 year old medieval market town with traditional black and white buildings and the remains of a 12th century Priory. The town’s greatest claim to fame has to be its significance as the home of the Modern Olympics. This afternoon enjoy a unique 45 minute cruise, with commentary, along the River Severn and under the famous Iron Bridge, a fine finale to your Shropshire holiday.

Day 5: Time to reluctantly head for home.
